The Art of the River Towns Artist of the Week: Chee Bravo

Posted
The inaugural Art of the River Towns exhibition, sponsored by River Towns Magazine, is set to open at the Prallsville Mills in Stockton N.J., on Thursday, Oct. 1. In the weeks leading up to the show, the Herald will feature one of the local artists accepted for entry.

This week, we are highlighting Chee Bravo of Trenton, N.J., a printmaker and multimedia artist from the culturally diverse West Indian islands of Trinidad & Tobago. She creates digital collages of portraits of people from photographs which are then created on canvas or paper through acrylics, mixed media or silkscreen.

“Her journey began with capturing the essence of the performers in the New York subway,” she says in her artist statement. “This has grown to include people from her travels and recently, performers in her hometown, Trenton.”

Bravo received her BFA in printmaking at the Florida International University (FIU) in Miami. Her works can be found in the Trenton City Museum and the FIU permanent collections. She has been recognized with The Betty Laird award and national awards in the advertising sector, which includes a prestigious Addy award.

Bravo exhibits nationally and internationally. She participates in fundraising efforts for local A.I.R.s, the Jim Hamilton Shadfest Scholarship and Artworks.

Co-chairs Pearl and Chuck Mintzer, have helped to launch the Art of the River Towns Online Sales Gallery at rivertownsmagazine.com.

New work will continue to be added through early October and the online sales gallery will be available until the end of October.
