THAT kicks off 5th tour with outdoor opening reception at Hunterdon Art Museum

Posted

The Hunterdon Art Tour (THAT), a self-guided tour showcasing the studios and exhibition spaces of more than 90 artists living and working in Hunterdon County, is happening Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1.

THAT was founded by a small, dedicated volunteer group of artists and longtime Hunterdon County residents in 2016. THAT’s artists will be featured in a special exhibition at Hunterdon Art Museum (HAM) in Clinton, N.J. Artwork is offered for sale benefiting the artists, THAT and HAM. The festivities kick off Friday, April 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. with an outdoor opening reception. Meet the artists, see their work and use the exhibition, along with the signature website and printed map, to develop your own tour.

THAT is thankful to the Hunterdon County Cultural & Heritage Commission – a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts – and Flemington Community Partnership (BID) for their generous renewed contributions, which sponsored the participation of Hunterdon Art Teachers and six artists and arts groups based in Flemington Borough, including Flemington DIY in its new space located at 26 Stangl Road in Flemington, N.J. THAT also welcomes a new alliance with the Covered Bridge Artisans (CBA) group. CBA is hosting its first-ever spring tour on the same weekend as THAT.

For 27 years, CBA has hosted a highly successful open studios tour during the weekend following Thanksgiving. Showcasing a cadre of respected and talented artists working in a variety of media, the addition of CBA’s tour is expanding THAT’s presence in Sergeantsville, Stockton and Lambertville, as well as into New Hope, and significantly enhancing each other’s promotional efforts to reach a wider audience across the county, state and region. And THAT is collaborating again with WhittemoreCCC (WCCC) in Oldwick to curate an exhibit of works by members of the Hunterdon Watercolor Society – a new Tour partner – Eleanor Eick, Pamela LaFevre, Lana Pagano and Norma Walaka; along with painters Ahni Kruger and WCCC Artist-in-Residence Alison Scherr; and, sculptors Jeff Mase, Elie Porter Trubert and WCCC Sculpture Garden Director and Curator David Horowitz. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 30, and the unveiling of Trubert’s “Spring,” the first piece in a four-part series, is set for noon Sunday, May 1. Artists’ studios and partner events at more than 40 locations will be open to the public on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1.

Artist and partner addresses and detailed contact information can be found on TheHunterdonArtTour.com under 2022 Artists and 2022 Partners headings in the red banner on the home page. Visit the website for an interactive map and updates. All Tour participants are expected to comply with COVID-19 protocols.
