Posted

Thadius William McGrath, 35, of Chatham, Mass., was charged with murder of the first degree, murder of the third degree, endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person, and possession of an instrument of crime, for a June 8 homicide in the Holland section of Northampton Township.

McGrath was arraigned by District Judge Leonard Brown, denied bail and remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility.

According to Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub, McGrath strangled Samantha Jean Rementer, 31, to death while her two children, ages 4 and 1, were at home. He then shot himself in the face. Police found the 4-year-old covered in blood.

McGrath was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center and then transferred to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

The 4-year-old later told investigators that the pair argued prior to the defendant beating and strangling the victim.
