Suicide awareness, prevention program slated in Doylestown

What paths lead to suicide?

On Monday, May 6, the Peace and Justice Ministry of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church welcomes Wendy Flanigan, a representative from the Bucks County Office of Mental Health and Developmental Programs as well as the chair of the Bucks County Suicide Prevention Task Force, who will speak about mental health and suicide.

Flanigan will talk about the myths surrounding suicide, and then move on to a discussion of the kinds of symptoms that might signal a mental health problem that could lead to suicide. She will work to bring clarity to these subjects in order to leave participants more aware and better equipped to help individuals struggling with a mental health illness.

After the presentation, Flanigan will take questions from the audience, welcoming all to a safe space for the kind of discussion that can begin to demystify the painful subject of suicide.

The discussion takes place 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hall on Maple Avenue in Doylestown, across from Mt. Carmel Church. Refreshments will be served.
