Stuart A. Fox, VMD

Stuart A. Fox, VMD passed away on January 31, 2022 in St. Croix, USVI, his beloved adopted home. He was 98.
He was born on July 29, 1924 in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., son of Harriet Codding Ames and George Miller Fox. He grew up in West Hampton Beach, N.Y., where his father managed the local office of the Suffolk County Water Authority. He graduated from The Darrow School in Pittsfield, Mass., and was a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania when World War II began. He joined the U.S. Army as a paramedic. During the war he married Claire E. Gilbride of Philadelphia, a fellow University of Pennsylvania student.
After the war, he was able to complete his education and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School. He began his practice at the Rau Animal Hospital in Glenside, Pa., and eventually acquired the practice. In the mid 1970’s he purchased Holiday House Pet Resort in Doylestown and he and his wife Claire moved their residence there.
After his wife Claire passed away he married Marie McKinstry of Doylestown. They lived in Chalfont and were members of Trinity Solebury congregation. They enjoyed a very active life with her family and his. They traveled extensively and spent winters on St. Croix.
Stuart was an active member of the Union League of Philadelphia and also a Son of the American Revolution.
He is predeceased by both Claire and Marie. He is survived by his four children, Richard, Susan, Jeffery and Mark; 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
