SteelStacks annual high school jazz band showcase returns

High school bands from Pennsylvania and New Jersey return to the ArtsQuest Center’s Musikfest Café in Bethlehem Feb. 23 and March 8 for the ninth annual SteelStacks High School Jazz Band Showcase.

Tickets for the event’s preliminary rounds are $7 per session and on sale now at steelstacks.org and 610-332-3378.

The 17 jazz bands this year will perform in front of a live audience and a judging panel. Top bands from the preliminary rounds will then advance to the finals at 4 p.m. March 29.

The showcase is made possible in 2020 in part by a $20,000 National Endowment for the Arts Art Works grant supporting ArtsQuest’s jazz programming for the region.

Performing at noon Feb. 23 are: North Penn High School Navy Jazz Band; Warren Hills High School – N.J.; Phillipsburg High School – N.J.; Brandywine Heights High School; and North Penn High School Columbia Jazz Band.

Performing at 4 p.m. Feb. 23 are: Wilson High School; Easton High School; Saucon Valley High School; Bernards High School – N.J.; The Hill School; and Kutztown High School.

Performing at 2 p.m. March 8 are: Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts; Delaware Valley High School – N.J.; Freedom High School; Dieruff High School; Central Bucks High School South; and Quakertown Community High School.
