Springfield Township sets parameters for quarry conditional use hearing

Springfield supervisors have finalized the details for next Tuesday’s conditional use hearing on a proposed quarry between Salem Road and Route 309.
Seating at the Springtown Volunteer Fire Company hall on Route 212, Sept. 8, will be limited to approximately 35 members of the public to ensure social distancing; the other 15 spots will be reserved for board members, the township solicitor, the police chief, H & K representatives and a stenographer. A live broadcast will be available online.
Determined to avoid a repeat of a 2019 meeting on shooting regulations, which was marred by poor acoustics, board members approved $3,000 for upgraded audio-visual equipment as well as cleaning supplies.
In other business, Treasurer Deb Godshall reported total revenue was down 21.1 percent from 2019, and cited a decline in earned income and real estate taxes as contributing factors. Godshall put a positive spin on the numbers, stating the gap was accentuated by a $100,000 refund last year; nonetheless, Chairman Jim Nilsen called the figures “a real eye-opener.”
