Spend the holidays with ARTWRKD

Posted

ArtWRKD hosts “Through The Artist Lens; An Expressive Boutique Holiday Celebration & Artist Meet” from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 8, at 128 S. State St., Newtown.

There will be small bites and sips available during the reception.

The eclectic holiday boutique is a celebration of local artists and unique creations that embody the spirit of ArtWRKD. It will showcase emotive art and unexpected imagery and runs through Jan. 13.

This holiday season, ArtWRKD features the “exquisite handmade clothing” of DC-based designer Kim Schalk, recently crowned Designer of the Year. Her creations are a testament to creativity and innovation, making her a perfect addition to the ArtWRKD space, the gallery says. Additionally, the gallery will present a line of vintage tie collars by Lillian Asterfield, adding a touch of timeless elegance to its collection.

Jewelry designers are offering a range of items, from contemporary to intuitive pieces for those looking for that perfect gift for loved ones. ArtWRKD invites you to pop in, explore, and stay awhile. “We guarantee you won’t be disappointed by the exceptional talent and craftsmanship on display,” the gallery says.

Schalk says her “best pieces are often inspired by something I literally threw over a mannequin and had a “viola” moment. So I definitely understand the beauty of an accident.” She is in favor of conservation of “the environment, manpower, money – all of it” and feels very strongly about supporting the infrastructure of the United States and buying American-made products.

Artist Margaret Watson’s work is based on landscape. She says her paintings are constructed, not conceived. “Process builds and forms the painting – each subsequent line, color, layer or erasure responding to the previous mark. I try to keep this process of building the painting – its history – evident.”
