Law enforcement officers create positive relationships with area youth

Posted

On Friday, May 20, the Bucks County Drug & Alcohol Commission, in association with the Solid Rock Youth Center and the Sheriff’s Deputy Department, hosted an event to help better the relationship between local law enforcement and the youth in the community.

The event was located at the Solid Rock Youth Center in Morrisville. The deputies challenged the youth to a virtual boxing match via the Nintendo Wii gaming system. Afterward, the deputies sat down with the students and talked with them about their experiences in law enforcement and explained ways they are helping the community. They cleared up some stigmas against law enforcement officers and answered several questions the students had about their career.

The Pathfinders Unit of the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department continues to work hard to engage with the community by taking a different approach when dealing with individuals. They achieve this by “reaching a safer outcome for everyone through communication, listening, understanding, and empathy.” For information, contact the Sheriff’s Department or visit buckscounty.gov/551/Sheriff.

The Solid Rock Youth Center continues to be a place where hope thrives. It offers safe and fun alternative after-school programs where youth can discover their full potential as young adults. For information, visit solidrockyouthcenter.com.
