Solebury School 2020 graduate Nicole Cosner is the recipient of the Susan Hirschfeld Eckstein Memorial Prize, an endowed award that recognizes dedication and achievement in the visual arts by a Solebury School senior or recent graduate (no more than four years post-graduation).
The award was created in 2019 by Hirschfeld Eckstein’s partner, Marty Rosen, to honor her lifetime of kindness and caring for others. It also recognizes her artistic talent that captured the wonders of life by inspiring us with its beauty, putting big smiles on our faces and hearts, and allowing us to see a more hopeful world. A committee composed of Solebury’s visual arts chair, head of school, assistant head of school - advancement, director of college guidance, and a representative of Hirschfeld Eckstein’s family chose this year’s winner from a very talented field of potential recipients.
Cosner’s work has been described as creative, at times whimsical, and always very personal. “
Nicole blossomed as an artist in her time here at Solebury School. She grew from a quiet, tentative student into a self-assured young artist who was accepted into every art program to which she applied,” said Kirby Fredendall, visual arts teacher. “Her growth has been exponential not only as an artist but as a young woman who has faced every challenge with grace and strength. It has truly been our pleasure, as a department, to work with Nicole over her time here at Solebury.”
