Solebury, New Hope officials talk road conditions

Posted

Representatives of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) met with elected officials from New Hope Borough and Solebury Township to discuss the condition of area roads and repair plans.

The unusual face-to-face gathering was a joint effort toward the common goal of improving area roadways.

“We regularly hear resident complaints about state road conditions, and it was very helpful to relay them directly to PennDOT,” said Solebury Township Board of Supervisors Chair Mark Baum Baicker. “The department heard our concerns and was forthcoming with their plans going forward.”

State Rep. Wendi Thomas, who organized the meeting, and Dan O’Brien, of state Sen. Steve Santarsiero’s office, were both in attendance at the meeting, which was held in the Solebury Township Building.

“In addition to road conditions, we’re also concerned about traffic,” said New Hope Borough Council President Connie Gering. “We would like to see better regulation of truck traffic, especially on the weekends. Overall, the meeting was productive and I look forward to seeing our issues addressed.”

The state roads in Solebury and New Hope are Aquetong Road, Carversville Road, Fleecydale Road, Green Hill Road, Lower York Road, Mechanicsville Road, Phillips Mill Road, River Road, Stoney Hill Road, Sugan Road (from Paxson Road to Upper York Road), Upper York Road and Windy Bush Road. PennDOT encourages residents to report state road maintenance issues on its website atpenndot.gov or by calling 1-800-FIX-ROAD.
