Solebury Historical hosts talk on “Researching Old Houses”

Posted

Join Jeffrey L. Marshall for “Researching Old Houses,” an illustrated lecture on how to trace the genealogy of an old house, at Solebury Township Historical Society Schoolhouse, corner of Upper York (Route 263) and Sugan roads in Solebury, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18.

Marshall will explain the process from deed research to examining wills, Orphans’ Court records and other primary sources and will give tips on clues to look for in order to interpret available data. Deed research is only the foundation. You have to look at other primary and secondary sources to build a house’s history.

With almost 50 years in researching old buildings in Bucks County, Jeff Marshall is one of the most experienced old-house detectives and the author of half a dozen books on local history, old houses and barns. Marshall retired after 40 years at Heritage Conservancy.

In addition, he served as president of the board of directors of the National Barn Alliance and is a founding member and past president of the board of directors of the Historic Barn and Farm Foundation of Pennsylvania. He served on the board of directors of Preservation Pennsylvania and as president of the Board of the Pennsylvania Land Trust Association.

Tickets are free for STHS members and $10 for nonmembers at: https://soleburyhistory.org/event/upcoming-event; 215-297-5091 (leave a message); or soleburyhistory@gmail.com.
