St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in New Hope will hold its annual St. Philip’s Sock Drive for the Homeless Dec. 1 to 31.
During this time, the church will accept donations of new socks to benefit people experiencing homelessness in the local area.
Last January, the Bucks County Division of Housing and Human Services counted more than 350 people living on the street, in homeless shelters or in transitional housing in Bucks County.
Homeless people lack frequent access to laundry facilities. When their socks get wet, they risk getting frostbite or other disease. To remain healthy, they need access to dry socks.
To address this need, every December St. Philip’s collects socks for distribution to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. In 2018, the church collected and distributed more than 1,600 pairs of socks.
St. Philip’s welcomes all donations of new socks for men and new socks, stockings, pantyhose or leggings for women. New children’s socks are also welcome, but primarily adult socks are needed.
Donors can place the socks in the bin outside the front door of St. Philip’s Church at 10 Chapel Road, New Hope.
Donors can also find collection sites at area businesses, such as ME Salon at 356 W. Bridge St., New Hope.
St. Philip’s will distribute the socks to recipients through Bucks County Opportunity Council, Code Blue and other Bucks County organizations. For information, visit stphilipsnewhope.org.
