Singer-Songwriter Vance Gilbert performs in Princeton

Posted

The Princeton Folk Music Society presents singer-songwriter Vance Gilbert at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at Christ Congregation Church, 50 Walnut Lane, Princeton, N.J.

Gilbert has been noted for his rapport with his audiences, and his free-spirited performances that defy stereotypes. He has been called a folkie trapped in a vaudevillian body, with a voice that could have been on the opera stage, a wit that could have been on a comedy stage, and a songwriting talent that has thrust him on the folk stage for decades.

His performances draw not only on folk roots, but also on jazz, rock, and his experiences touring with comics such as Paul Reiser and George Carlin.

In describing himself, Gilbert said, “I’m black, I sing, I play an acoustic guitar, and I don’t play the blues.” He has released 13 albums.

Tickets at the door are: $25 ($20 members, $10 students 12 to 22, $5 children 11 and under). There is ample free parking. Masks and proof of full vaccination will be required for admission. A livestream also is available. For information, visit princetonfolk.org.
