See Vintage Base Ball at its best at Pennypacker Mills

Posted

Get ready to be transported back in time to a pleasant summer day in 1864 when spectators gathered on a grassy field, without fences or pricey seating, to watch an exciting game of “base ball.”

If you love history and sports, come to historic Pennypacker Mills from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 25, and watch as the Athletic Base Ball Club of Philadelphia and the Brandywine Base Ball Club introduce everyone to the sociable and well-played game that defined base ball in the years 1859 to 1872.

In 2009, a team of amateurs initiated the revival of the league, playing with the intent of reestablishing the convivial amateur spirit of the early game. Today, you can cheer on this team as they welcome enthusiastic Ladies and Gentlemen to enjoy America’s all-American pastime.

Bring a blanket or chair to sit on. This is a free event, with a suggested donation of $2 per person.

Stop by the Pennypacker mansion for a free guided tour of Pennsylvania Governor Samuel Pennypacker’s home.

Pennypacker Mills is located at 5 Haldeman Road, Schwenksville. For information, call 610-287-9349 or visit montcopa.org/pennypackermills.
