Sculpture Spotlight features Kathleen McSherry

Posted

The Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County announced another “Sculpture Spotlight” in collaboration with the Township Library of Lower Southampton, 1983 Bridgetown Pike, Feasterville-Trevose.

The work of A&C member and found object sculptor Kathleen McSherry is on display in the atrium now through late January, during library hours.

McSherry is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York City and has enjoyed a long career in advertising, marketing and university-level teaching in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Now retired from advertising, she spends her time as an exhibiting artist and creating new work in found object sculpture. She has shown work locally, regionally and internationally. Her studio is in Bucks County.

Throughout her tenure as a creative director in advertising, McSherry also was a cartoonist.

McSherry’s deconstructive techniques elevate the mundane and forgotten, rather than focusing on the traditionally beautiful. The act of freely altering and misusing the intended purposes of her media allows her a wide range in the field of irony.

The library is a place where the community can experience the work up close, see how everyday objects can gain new meaning and see the world in a different way.

Library Director Dennis Stranz expressed excitement about the Sculpture Spotlight installation series: “This program continues to be a great way to bring the arts into the heart of Lower Bucks County and inspire people to learn more about and develop a deeper appreciation for the County’s rich cultural heritage.”

Visitors can see McSherry’s work during library hours now through early January: 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday. The Township Library of Lower Southampton is located at 1983 Bridgetown Pike, Feasterville-Trevose.
