School of Rock Doylestown to support Pride Month

Posted

School of Rock Doylestown, a comprehensive music lesson and music education program for kids, tweens, teens, and adults, is taking an active role in a variety of upcoming Bucks County Pride Month events.

“Since we opened our doors in 2009, we’ve aimed to provide a safe, enriching, and encouraging atmosphere for all kids, especially LGBTQ+ young people in Bucks County,” said Melanie Boyd, general manager of School of Rock Doylestown. “Our activities in support of Pride Month will extend our commitment to LGBTQ+ rights, awareness, and freedom beyond our studios and classrooms and into the community.”

The school is currently selling Pride T-shirts at its 88 S. Main St. location. All net proceeds from the shirt sales will benefit The Rainbow Room, a support group that provides free education, counseling, and recreation services for LGBTQ+ tweens/teens in Bucks County.

Along with its T-shirt fundraiser for The Rainbow Room, School of Rock Doylestown will also be participating in other initiatives to support Pride-related events in the Doylestown area, including:

School of Rock Doylestown’s House Band, which is comprised of some of its top students, will perform at the New Hope PrideFeston May 21 and the Doylestown Pride Day Block Partyon June 18. The House Band’s repertoire will include a variety of rock, pop, R&B, and dance hits by Nirvana, The Beatles, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, The Strokes, The Killers, Weezer, Blur, Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, Diana Ross and many more.

Boyd will participate in the Trevor Project 50 Mile Challenge,a fundraising event that will raise money to provide suicide prevention and mental health services to LGBTQ youths across the country.
