Scarecrow Showdown returns to Downtown Bethlehem

Posted

Participation kits for Historic Downtown Bethlehem’s Scarecrow Showdown are on sale now.
The event, started last year to encourage safe, outdoor fun during business shutdowns and restrictions, was such a big hit that the Downtown Bethlehem Association (DBA) decided to make it an annual event.
During the Scarecrow Showdown, participants decorate a scarecrow that the DBA displays in Historic Downtown Bethlehem. Last year’s creative entries included everything from traditional straw-stuffed scarecrows to whimsical creatures and several dedicated to the community’s health care heroes.

“As this pandemic continues, we have a responsibility to find creative and safe ways to support local businesses. If we lose them, our city will be a shell of itself after the pandemic,” said DBA Manager Tammy Wendling.
Purchase your kit at getdowntownbethlehem.com/scarecrow-showdown. Pick up your kit at the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce office, decorate your scarecrow and return it to the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce office. Then, see your creation on display. Scarecrows will line Main and Broad streets in Downtown Bethlehem from Oct. 1 through 30.
Every entrant will receive a voting link to share with family and friends, so they can vote for their favorites. The DBA will announce the winner on the Heart of Bethlehem Facebook and Instagram pages Nov. 1.
