Posted
Peddler’s Village will kick off its 40th annual scarecrow season Monday, Sept. 9, with Scarecrows in the Village, a property-wide display of scarecrows created by individuals and businesses in the region.

The season will be marked by a weekend Scarecrow Festival Sept. 14 and 15. Rain or shine, the festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Outdoor movies will be shown during the evenings on Friday, Sept. 13 and Saturday, Sept. 14. Admission and parking for all events are free.

The 40th annual scarecrow display in Peddler’s Village, which begins Monday, Sept. 9 and continues daily through Sunday, Oct. 27, will showcase more than 100 scarecrows created by the public. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to submit an entry, which is eligible for a prize.

Entry forms for Scarecrows in the Village are available online or at the Hospitality Center at Cock ‘n Bull and are due by Wednesday, Sept. 4. Scarecrows must be dropped off on Sunday, Sept. 8. Participants can choose from the following categories: Quite the Character, Traditional Turns 40, Thrills with Chills, Upcycled Crow, Pink Out!, and Kids Only.

During the first three weeks of the contest, Peddler’s Village guests will be invited to vote for the winners. Ballots will be available in the village and on the new Peddler’s Village mobile app. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. The grand prize winner will receive $350 and a dinner for four at Cock ‘n Bull.

The Scarecrow Festival Sept. 14 and 15 will include scarecrow-making workshops, pumpkin painting, live musical entertainment, children’s activities, and a staged autumn backdrop for seasonal family/friend photos.

To register for the scarecrow-making workshops, held both days, visit Peddler’s Village online or call 215-794-4000. All scarecrow-building materials are included in the fee, with a maximum of four people per scarecrow.

No reservations are needed for Pumpkin Painting on the Street Road Green, held both days from 10 a.m. until supplies run out. Brushes, paint and pumpkins will be provided for a nominal fee.

Festival packages that include guaranteed parking, priority restaurant seating for up to six people, a Peddler’s Village T-shirt and tote bag, a Local & Loyal rewards card, and a Passport to Values book are available for purchase online.

“The Wizard of Oz” will be shown Sept. 13; attendees are invited to wear movie-related costumes and to participate in “Wizard of Oz” trivia game before the movie. “Hocus Pocus” will screen Sept. 14. Both events will begin at 7:30 p.m. Bring chairs and blankets.
