Samuel W. Stringer

Posted

Samuel (Bill) Stringer crossed over the rainbow bridge unexpectedly, surrounded by his loving family. Sam endured many health problems following his near fatal car accident in 2001, however always, with unwavering determination, battled through these issues so he could remain here, on Earth, with his family whom he loved more than anything.
He is survived by his wife Catherine of 57 years; his four daughters, Geri, Rochelle, Amy and Samantha, as well as, nine adored grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his only sibling and much loved sister, Vivian (Vicki), and his sons-in-law, whom he loved as his own, Robert, John and Mathew.
Sam was deeply passionate about his faith, trees, wildlife and the ocean. In the last few years of his retirement, he moved from Pennsylvania to the sunshine state of Florida with his daughter, Geri (a nurse for over 25 years), where he enjoyed boating, floating in the ocean, some good conversation ... and of course, a cocktail on the patio.
Sam was love and kindness, personified. He was hardworking and dedicated in everything he did. He looked you in the eyes when he spoke to you, and treated everyone he met with kindness and respect; the way he liked to be treated. He was liked by all that were lucky enough to know him. He had many interests, not the least of which was his voracious appetite for reading. Along with being an avid reader, he was a writer of poetry, with a profound love of vocabulary and written language. He was a longtime practicing chess aficionado and a life long model train and fish enthusiast. He loved music of all genres.
He was a self-taught arborist who enjoyed the opportunity to practice tree propagation both from seeds, as well as through cuttings; he enjoyed that along with his ability to utilize his knowledge of Latin. This love of trees led him to plant a 60-plus specimen tree path in Bucks County. In his love of the natural world, he also shared his enthusiasm for looking through his telescope at the night’s sky and pointing out the planets and constellations with his children and grandchildren; expounding on the possibilities of the universe. We’ll now all look for him there, an Angel among the stars. We’re so grateful to have so many memories with this wonderful man we called Sam, Bill, Dad … Pop … Poppy. He will be immeasurably missed by all of us.
“We wake up without our father in this world. In a moment, his body failed him and within days he was gone. The grief is a veil upon the world in which we remain. Forever missed – sweet talks about trees and animals … endless support and love, never wavering … always calm in a storm.” - S.J.S.
We find comfort in the promise of the sun rising after the dark, and in knowing that he has been lovingly welcomed into the afterlife by his beloved mother, father and infant sons, Samuel and David. Wherever Heaven is, he is there, pain free, and watching over us.
He will be memorialized on Easter Sunday, in a quiet and loving tree planting ceremony by his immediate family.
