Posted

Salvatore Prisco III of Perkasie, Pa., and formerly of Long Valley, N.J., passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at his home at the age of 79.

Sal was the beloved husband of Dorothy DeSteno Prisco. They were married for 55 years. Born in Hoboken, N.J., Sal was the loving son of the late Salvatore and Lillian Prisco (Deputato).

In addition to his wife, Sal is survived by his loving daughter, Lisa Prisco McCarty, her husband, Christopher McCarty, and two adoring grandchildren, Matthew Salvatore, and Lilianna McCarty of Slatington, Pa. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Pellegrino of Florida and his brother John Prisco of New York, as well as many other family members and friends.

A 1964 graduate of St. Peter’s University, he went on to earn a master’s degree and Ph.D. at Rutgers University. Dr. Prisco’s academic specialty was diplomatic history and international relations, and he enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge of this subject, lecturing without notes and gaining a loyal audience. He also authored two history books, a number of articles and many book reviews. He was a professor of history and academic administrator at Stevens Institute of Technology for over 30 years. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with students and he enriched conversation with his expansive knowledge, especially when watching “Jeopardy!”

Sal and Dorothy enjoyed their travels to Italy, Sicily, through Europe, Japan and China. The best surprise was the discovery of the Hotel Royal Prisco in Positano, Italy! They did receive the royal treatment there!

Sal had a great love for animals of all kinds, but especially his family cats and birds, and the deer families who visited him for food over the years. He had an impressive green thumb and enjoyed listening to music by the big bands and solo vocalists. Often, you could hear him whistling and singing tunes he especially liked. One of the greatest joys of his life was spending time with his grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Road), New Britain, PA 18901. Funeral Mass follows at 12:30 p.m. at St. Jude Church, 321 W. Butler Ave., Chalfont, PA 18914. His entombment will follow in Our Lady of Czestochowa, Doylestown, Pa.

Contributions in his memory may be made to an animal rescue and rehabilitation organization of your choice.
