On Sept. 9, Doylestown Rugby men’s team hosted Wilkes-Barre Scranton Breakers for a preseason “friendly” to kick off the 15s season.
The Dragons, fielding several new players, came out of the gate hard and fast. The first half ended with a score of 40-0. Try scorers were: Julian Bellman, Josh Sheriff, Kevin Hockings, Julio Marsiglia, John Nyongesa and Andrew Nance. Fionn O’Toole kicked five conversions.
Halftime concluded with Wilkes making some adjustments and firing out fast, putting the Dragons on their heels. However, Doylestown’s resilience and grit led the way, allowing the Dragons to win their preseason “friendly” by a score of 57-24. Try scorers in the second half were: Hockings, Nance and Bellman. O’Toole kicked one conversion.
The Dragons are looking forward to the upcoming season and hope to see everyone out at the league opener against Phoenixville on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Maennerchor Field, 3650 Cold Spring Creamery Road, Doylestown. Anticipated kickoff is 1 p.m.
