Rosemarie S. Zarlengo

Rosemarie S. Zarlengo, of West Amwell, NJ, died on Thursday, October 8, 2021, at her home.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Rosemarie came to West Amwell with her mother after her father’s death.

She graduated from Lambertville High School and received her nursing cap in 1952, from the Helene Fuld School of Nursing in Trenton. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the College of New Jersey. Her first nursing position was at Helene Fuld Hospital in Trenton. Rosemarie joined the staff of Dr. Levinson in Trenton. Here she met her future husband, Dominic J. Zarlengo, when he brought his mother into the office for her appointmnets. A dedicated professional, Rosemarie went on to work for the State of New Jersey’s Department of Developmental Disabilities overseeing staffing and facilities and evaluating programs in the state’s group homes. She retired 25 years ago after 20 years of service.

Rosemarie was a parishioner at St. Martin of Tours Church in New Hope. She and Don always sat in the front pew. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Rosemarie and Dominic enjoyed traveling. Some of their favorite destinations were Williamsburg, Virginia, where they honeymooned in 1970, and Acadia National Park, where they spent many family vacations camping and then, on their own, exploring the park and Bar Harboor, ME. She and Don also loved visiting Maryland so they could spend time with their grandson. When close to home they were regulars for lunch at Sneddon’s in Lambertville and enjoyed their monthly pizza group outings.

She was the wife of the late Dominic J. Zarlengo; the daughter of the late John Weber and the late Sophie Grunseich Weber Thuman and the step-daughter of the late Otto Thuman. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Stacy and Reece Herrick of Sykesville, MD; her son David W. Zarlengo of West Amwell and his girlfriend Liza South of Stuttgart, Germany; her grandson Joseph Dominic Herrick of Sykesville; her step-sister Ann Carducci of Ewing, NJ; several nieces and nephews and her beloved grandpup, Nova..

The funeral mass will be offered on Monday, October 25, at 10 am at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 1 Riverstone Circle, New Hope, PA 18938. Committal service will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.

There will be calling hours at the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, 21 York Street, Lambertville, NJ 08530 (vhmfh.com) on Sunday evening, October 24, 2021 from 6 to 8 pm and on Monday morning, October 25, from 8:30 am until departure for church.
