Riverside Symphonia celebrates Gershwin

Posted

As part of the Riverside Symphonia’s 32nd season, the symphony will once again keep its spring concert tradition alive with “Gershwin: American in Paris,” at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at South Hunterdon Regional High School in Lambertville, N.J.

Pianist Leonel Morales will join the full Riverside Symphonia Orchestra for a lively exploration of the world of George Gershwin through his friends and influences. A presentation of works by Cervantes, Prokofiev, Offenbach, Ravel, and of course, Gershwin will punctuate a musical tour of early 20th century music that puts an emphasis on beauty, lighthearted musical narration, and offers soothing consolation amidst the turbulent times of today.

Riverside Symphonia Music Director Mariusz Smolij noted, “George Gershwin is an iconic name for American music outside of our country. His unique style, which blends elements of pop, jazz, and so-called classical music, is widely recognizable as well as uniformly admired around the world.

This concert features two of his most famous orchestral works juxtaposed by music written by his contemporaries and influences. I have no doubt that the uplifting qualities of this program will create something we need right now, a musical adventure for the spirit, which is certainly an experience not to be missed.” Tickets can be ordered online or by phone at riversidesymphonia.org or 609-397-7300. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door.
