Riegelsville council approves property tax hike

Property owners in Riegelsville will see slightly higher tax bills for 2019.

Council members unanimously approved Ordinance #240-Tax Levy for 2019 along with the 2019 budget.

The average property owner will see an increase of about $20 on their tax bills for the new year.

The ordinance and budget were passed during a special meeting of the Riegelsville Borough Council on Dec. 27. Members were scheduled to approve the items at their Dec. 12 council meeting, but due to an advertising deadline glitch, had to reschedule to later in the month.

The $291,754 budget reflects 14 mills total, with an increase of 0.75 mills. Of that, 12.5 mills is for general purposes, with 1 mill for fire protection services and 0.5 mills for ambulance and rescue squad services. A breakdown of the budget can be found on the borough website.
