Richard George Knoster, Jr., 74, of New Paris, PA went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 28, 2021 passing away from complications of Parkinson’s disease at the Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home.

Richard was born in Doylestown, PA on November 4, 1946, the son of the late Margaret (Fitzgerald) and Richard Knoster, Sr.

On November 26, 1988, he married the love of his life, Pamela (Hartsell) of Pittstown, NJ. In addition to his wife he is survived by their children Nicholas, Fiona and Olivia of whom he enjoyed and was so very proud. Also surviving are brother, Dr. Timothy Knoster with wife Marsha of Lewistown, PA and sister, Gretchen Rice with husband Dudley of New Hope, PA, and many nieces and nephews.

He will be dearly missed by his longtime friends, Terry and Nancy Dantzig, and Rita Babich.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by niece, Melissa Rice and recently, best friend, George Babich (wife, Rita).

Growing up his passion for art, theater, and music stemmed from his first jobs for St. John Terrell’s Music Circus of Lambertville, NJ, pulling curtain and earning his set equity card at the Bucks County Playhouse and being a friend of many in the artists’ colony of New Hope.

Richard graduated from New Hope-Solebury High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged for injuries prior to serving and learned he had dyslexia. He was a member of American Legion Post 79 New Hope.

He had a love of hunting and dogs since early childhood. He raised AKC English Setters and served as the President of the Hudson English Setter Club. After moving to New Paris in 1989 he was introduced to a rare breed, the Irish Red and White Setter and became an owner/breeder and served as the President of the National Irish Red and White Setter Club of America helping the breed become accepted by AKC by importing foundation stock. His contributions can be found in various books on both breeds.

Rich and his wife started their own company, Accuracy Innovations Inc. which allowed him to pursue his ideas for improving accuracy in shooting shotguns. Their company compiled the first demographics of slug gun deer hunting in America. They took on this niche market and he received his first U.S. Patent in 1992 developing the universal arbor for shotguns. In 2000 he received a U.S. Patent for his Sabot Pressure Wad and designed the Hammerhead slug. Hastings Barrel Company, Hevi-Shot, and RUAG Ammotec-USA used his wad to produce their own brand of sabot slug ammunition. He leaves his company, Sabot Technologies Inc., aka Slugs ‘R Us, in his wife’s capable hands to serve those that hand load.

His appreciation of a beautiful long gun, a good dog, and his faith in God has allowed him to freely converse with others sharing his thankfulness for the Lord’s blessings and miracles.

Rich was a member of the United Church of Schellsburg. A memorial service will be held November 13th at the United Church of Schellsburg at 1646 Market Street. Visitation will be 11am 12 noon. Service begins at 12pm. Officiating will be Reverend Linda Kibler.

His wish to offer himself to science is fulfilled by Humanity Gifts Registry. If friends so desire, contributions may be made in memory of Richard to his favorite charity St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and the United Church of Schellsburg PO Box 108, Schellsburg, PA 15559.
