The Barn Cinema in Doylestown Township set to close

Posted

The Regal Barn Plaza 14 movie theater, a longtime staple for Doylestown area moviegoers, is closing.

No date for the closure was announced, although it was reported the British theater operator Cineworld Group, which owns Regal, will begin severing leases effective Feb. 15.

The 22-screen Regal in Warrington and the Regal UA at Oxford Valley are not included on the closure list.

Cineworld bought Regal for $3.6 billion just before the COVID-19 pandemic. It filed for bankruptcy in September 2022, clearing the way for the firm to repay $1 billion in debt to landlords and lenders.

With more than 500 theaters in the U.S., Regal is the second largest theater owner in the country behind AMC.

As streaming services continue to challenge the movie theater industry, which was already reeling from the pandemic, more theaters are expected to close across the country.
