Reclaimed items into fine art: Sculptures on display at Southampton library

Posted

The Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County announced another “Sculpture Spotlight” in collaboration with the Township Library of Lower Southampton. The work of A&C member, sculptor and furniture maker Adam Capone is on display in the atrium now through late June.
Capone is known for forming his sculptures using reclaimed and repurposed items.
“I feel a bit like Doctor Frankenstein. I find these corpses — furniture, architectural remnants. I dissect them. I find something that resembles a wing or an ear and notice that two disparate furniture parts align to simulate a toothy grin. Then I cut, sand, grind, bolt, sew, paint, and burn. I try to help a table leg evoke the nose of an ancient god or to help the viewer to think of an oak mid-19th century doorway rosette as the eye of a phoenix.”

Visitors can see Capone’s work during library hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Township Library of Lower Southampton is located at 1983 Bridgetown Pike in Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.
Capone’s work is currently also on display at Bethlehem House Gallery, Ivystone Gallery, the 43Canal Gallery and New Hope Arts Center.
