Quakertown football triumphs in Thanksgiving Classic

Posted

Quakertown senior Ed Bittner rushed for two short touchdowns, his ninth and 10th of the year, to close the scoring Thursday morning as his visiting Panthers went wire-to-wire to beat archrival and host Pennridge 22-7. This was the 94th edition of the Thanksgiving Classic.

Quakertown (7-5), who tied for second place in the SOL Continental, scored first on Gavin Carroll’s 1-yard first quarter touchdown run. Logan Jeffery added a 39-yard field goal to give Quakertown a 9-0 lead.

Pennridge (3-8), who suffered four losses to the top five seeds in District One 6A, got on the board with four minutes left in the first half. Quarterback Noah Keating found Sam Kuhns, who took it 19 yards for a score. Keating ends the year with over 1,300 passing yards and a dozen touchdowns through the air.

Bittner answered with a touchdown plunge with 29 seconds left in the half. The PAT failed and Quakertown took a 15-7 lead into the locker room.

This was the third straight Thanksgiving win for Quakertown. It was the first time the Panthers had won three in a row since 1951.
