Posted

Frenchtown Bookshop will celebrate the release of Priscilla Gilman’s memoir, “The Critic’s Daughter,” with a reading and signing event at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 6.

Gilman is a former professor of English literature at Yale University and Vassar College. Her memoir is a complex love song to a difficult father, the famed theater critic and professor Richard Gilman.

The memoir tells the story of her childhood in the dazzling center of New York literary and artistic life, which came crashing down when her parents’ marriage broke down. After the divorce, a cascade of revelations came to light about her father’s secret double life and tortured sexual identify.

Gilman will read from her book and sign copies. The event is free and all are welcome. Frenchtown Bookshop is located at 28 Bridge St., Frenchtown, N.J.
