Pride flag “nonsense” nothing compared to real discrimination

Posted

First, I want to say I am a proud member of the LGBTQ community who has been around long enough to remember the “Stonewall” riots and a time there was real discrimination. When gay clubs were raided by police every day and patrons were arrested just for being there. Then I read this nonsense about the gay flag. This community has grown in leaps and bounds in equality, marriage, representation, etc...but apparently nothing is enough.

My friends are mostly gay men and women who are anywhere from their 20s up to seniors. Is this policy discrimination? Why should gay flags be flown inside classrooms? Would this not open it up to allow any and all flags with an agenda? Shouldn’t the classroom be focusing on learning not on political agenda?

The quotes attributed to the 20 or so protesters... “Taking away the flag removes a symbol of safety.” How? “Removing gay flags could lead to suicide among gay teens.” Seriously? “Not allowing flags is an attempt to make them invisible.” Ridiculous.

I would like to tell the teachers who are part of this group that they should retire immediately.

These children, as they grow and learn, will decide for themselves where they stand and what they believe in by living life. Without teachers trying to influence very young impressionable kids with their own views. Be satisfied with the strides our community has made. Gay pride parades all over the country. The Rainbow Room. Gay organizations. Gay literature. Gay films. The GMHC.

Stop worrying about what the radical few want you to worry about.
