Point Pleasant Baptist welcomes interim pastor

Posted

Point Pleasant Community Baptist Church welcomes the Rev. Courtny B. Davis Olds as its interim pastor upon the retirement of the Rev. Brenda Egolf-Fox.

Olds has 15 years of experience in health care and 11 years of experience in ministry, often working simultaneously in the two fields. As a physical therapist, she focused her practice on treating underserved and medically complex populations in rural, urban and international settings.

An ordained minister in the American Baptist Churches USA, she has held leadership positions in local congregations and the denomination’s mission agency; has taught seminary courses on an adjunct basis; and has assisted churches, faith organizations and nonprofits with discernment, strategic planning, change management, staff development and leadership transitions.

Olds was commissioned for ministry in Ghana by Emmanuel Baptist Church, Charleston, W.V., from October 2001 to October 2004, and licensed and ordained to ministry by Second Baptist Church of Germantown, Philadelphia, in November 2011.

She served as an associate minister at Second Baptist Church of Germantown from 2009, and then as Interim Pastor from July 2012 to January 2014 at Lansdowne Baptist Church, Lansdowne, guiding the congregation as they established their identity, embraced their growing diversity, and discerned the future direction of their ministry.

In addition to undertaking all pastoral duties, she advised the Pastoral Search Committee during the preparation of the Church Profile, provided education on Baptist identity and denominational resources, and organized the church’s 125th anniversary celebration.

Drawing on her background in ministry and her knowledge of organizational development, Olds has assisted churches, nonprofits, and educational institutions with discernment, strategic planning, change management, organization culture, staff development, and leadership transitions. Her clients have included local congregations, Princeton Theological Seminary Library, and Keep America Beautiful. She currently provides editorial services for Judson Press and has served as a supply minister.

Olds holds both a PhD and a Master of Arts in leadership and change from Antioch University, a Master of Theological Studies in contemporary theology from Palmer Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Science in physical therapy from West Virginia University. She resides in Philadelphia and enjoys travel, hiking, rock climbing, ice cream, and good books.

Point Pleasant Community Baptist Church invites the public to meet Olds on its Facebook page and website, ppbaptist.org, where her sermons and messages to the congregation can be found. The church looks forward to having people meet her in person when church services can safely be resumed.
