Poetry Reading: Featured Poet B.J. Ward

Posted

Join us on the first Saturday of every month for our Poetry Reading series. Each gathering will include a reading by that month’s Featured Poet, followed by a discussion with the poet.

November's Featured Poet is Pushcart Prize winner BJ Ward.

You may have heard his poems on NPR or NJTV, read them in the New York Times, or seen them inscribed at the Grounds for Sculpture. If so, you would have been drawn to the universal truths he finds in familiar experiences: Singing along with Roy Orbison, working at the Star Ledger newspaper, watching a Bruce Springsteen concert. As the Star Ledger said about his book Jackleg Opera, "for anyone who thinks poetry is too remote, or can only be recited in couplets by men in pantaloons, this is the book to read. It’s as modern and real as New Jersey."

First Saturday Poetry is curated and presented by award-winning poet Vasiliki Katsarou. Vasiliki is a Geraldine R. Dodge Poet and a regular Teaching Artist at the Hunterdon Art Museum, and is also a filmmaker. For many years, she ran the well-loved poetry-reading series at Panoply Books in Lambertville. Her books, including the full-length poetry collection, Memento Tsunami and the contemporary poetry anthology Dark as a Hazel Eye: Coffee & Chocolate Poems, are featured for sale at the Bookshop.

First Saturday Poetry Readings are free and open to the public.
