Pines Dinner Theatre in Allentown is set to premiere “Quarantine: the online musical comedy” and launch dinner theater “to-go,” opening May 23.
“We’d been wracking our brains, trying to figure out a way to stay relevant and in our guests’ minds, ever since we were forced to close our doors due to the Governor’s closure of non-essential business,” said Oliver Blatt, producer and artistic director at the Pines Dinner Theatre. “And one night, I hit on the idea that if the audience couldn’t come to us, why don’t we go to them?”
And so, the idea of doing dinner theater “to-go” was born for the Pines. Guests could order their meals online, pick the food up curb-side, and then head home to watch a performance at the Pines via the internet.
Blatt posed a challenge to the artistic staff at the theater to create and write a show all about the trials and tribulations of dealing with the current stay-at-home orders. It was to be a one act musical, it had to be funny, and it had to be written and performed in the next three weeks.
The show is being streamed every Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m., beginning May 23. Guests have the option to purchase dinner and show packages, or show only tickets. Tickets include a streaming code that allows viewing on one device.
Guests purchasing the dinner and show package can pick up their food from 4 until 7 p.m. Saturday, or 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. All tickets are pay what you wish, with a minimum of $30 for dinner and show package and $6 for show only.
