Phoenix Art Supplies and Framing offers a new “Artist of the Month” program in its Little Gallery.
The program highlights a local artist each month, exhibiting up to 20 hanging pieces and 20 unframed portfolio pieces available for purchase with Meet the Artist night the second Friday of the month from 5 to 7 p.m.
The program will debut with the art of Smita Rao, March 1 to 31, with a Meet the Artist night from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 8, with refreshments.
Rao is a Bucks County landscape artist trained in traditional fine art. Her compositions balance a minimalistic approach to the ephemeral qualities of turning seasons with focused meditation on nature’s power to shape daily experiences.
After more than 15 years of showing work in galleries in the Greater Philadelphia region, Rao’s work is represented in private collections as well as public venues.
Recently, she returned to review and curate the body of work developed over 25 years of inspiration from the natural beauty of Bucks County. The works exhibited represent a body of work up to 2013.
They include a range of media from traditional pastel on paper, oil pastel on board, water-based inks, and prints, including woodcuts, etchings, monotypes, collographs, and linoleum cuts. Much of this work has not been shown in galleries before, representing a comprehensive review of her artistic achievements.
