Phillips’ Mill hosts reading of Emerging Playwright winning short plays

Posted

Six winning short plays of the Phillips’ Mill Community Association’s second annual juried Emerging Playwright Competition have been selected.

The plays are: “Stating Fish” by Phil E. Eichinger of Rahway, N.J.; “Naked Men” by Vita Patrick Morales of Oxford, N.J.; “Upstaged” by Lisa DeAngelis and Michael Naylor of New Hope; “Outside the Coffee Shop” by Ann D’Silva of Newtown; “Rating the Breakup” by John McDonnell of Doylestown; and “Eleanor Brindle” by Rick Goodwin of Doylestown.

In order to be eligible for the competition, playwrights must live within one hundred miles of the mill.

Judges Judy Hallberg, James Schiffer and John Augustine chose the winning scripts after three rounds of blind judging.

“It’s wonderful that the mill is creating opportunity for playwrights to take their plays to the next step in the process – from the page to the stage,” said Augustine.

The plays will be read on stage at the mill at 7 p.m. Nov. 16. The readings will be followed by a talk back. A wine reception will follow the talk back to give judges, playwrights, actors, sponsors and the audience a chance to mingle.

The community is invited and in lieu of admission, a donation is appreciated but not required.

The actors who have volunteered to read the winning scripts are; Laura Brenner-Scotti, Tabitha Dell’Angelo, Erica Furgiuele, Paige Gardner, Cecily Laidman, Fran Young, Bill Brenner, Chris Canaan, Keith Maliszewski, Kevin Nalty, Tim Wade, Gary Wilmore and Matthew Swanson.
