Phillips’ Mill Community Association: Expanding the Bucks County Art Tradition

Posted

Bucks County could be more racially and culturally diverse than it already is, and local artists of color deserve more visibility than they have received. Nevertheless, there have been standouts, including Selma Burke, who was commissioned to create the portrait on the Roosevelt dime and Paul Keene, whose paintings are in museums including Doylestown’s Michener Museum.
While we can’t change the past, we can change the future. In its ongoing efforts to be more inclusive, for the first time in its 92-year history, Phillips’ Mill Art Show offered a prize to a painter or sculptor whose work recognizes, depicts, and celebrates diversity in America.
