Perkasie Borough Police Department to honor Chief Hillias

Perkasie Borough Police Department and Perkasie Borough Council plan to honor the memory of Perkasie’s late Police Chief Steven F. Hillias by naming Pine Street as “Hillias Way.” A dedication ceremony will take place at the Police Department Building at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 21.

Pine Street is the home of Perkasie’s Police Department and it connects South 8th Street and South 9th Street. The town intends to retain “Pine Street” as the official name of the street, but add a commemorative street sign at the corner of Pine and 9th in memory of the late chief.

Chief Hillias passed away on June 16, 2019 after serving in the Perkasie Police Department since 1997.

He was promoted to Perkasie chief of police in 2014. Perkasie had originally planned to honor the Chief back in 2019 but the memorial was delayed because of the global pandemic.

“I count it a significant privilege to have served with Steve, and cherish the friendship we developed as a result of his dedication and our shared empathy for Perkasie and Sellersville boroughs,” said former Mayor John Hollenbach, who plans to speak at the dedication ceremony. “Steve’s care for our residents, businesses, and the officers and staff of the Police Department should serve as an example for all of us.

Creating Hillias Way as a memorial to his service means that we have a permanent sign of what Steve meant, and accomplished.”

Chief Hillias was a familiar and much-loved character in the Perkasie and Sellersville communities that he served. Residents and business owners are invited to join borough officials and member of Steve’s family at the dedication ceremony, and to see the unveiling of the new street sign. Light refreshments will follow the dedication.

Public parking will be available at the Penn Community Bank lot, 219 S. 9th St.

Drivers in the area are advised of the following parking restrictions and road closures from 1:15 to 3 p.m. on Saturday May 21.

They include: South 9th Street from the Penn Community Bank parking lot to Park Avenue; Pine Street from South 8th Street to Park Avenue. The Recycling Center will be closed during this time period.

Questions about the Hillias Way dedication should be addressed to the Perkasie Police Department at 215-257- 6876.
