Performance at Bucks benefits A Woman’s Place

Bucks County Community College invites the public to a benefit production of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in the Zlock Performing Arts Center, on the campus at 275 Swamp Road, Newtown.

Updated since it first debuted 21 years ago, “The Vagina Monologues” is an Obie Award-winning whirlwind tour of a forbidden zone which introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a 6-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and many others.

Directed by Margo Weishar, the “dramatically funny, tender, provocative and political” play is a series of interviews with a diverse group of over 200 women, offering new perspectives on the complexities of growing up female and the hurdles women face in overcoming misogynist conceptions of the female body.

It features a 10-woman cast consisting of: Carol Thompson, Lauren Kerstetter, Heidi Young Murphy, Maria Jarrell, Shelli Pentimall, Jen Newby, Diana Irvine, Carlene Lawson, Cat Miller and Shawneen Rowe.

The event also marks V-Day, the global activist movement to end violence against women (cisgender, transgender, and those with fluid identities). There will be a post-performance discussion with the cast and representatives from A Woman’s Place, a domestic violence agency in Bucks County.

Reserved seating is $10 for adults and $5 for students, with proceeds benefiting A Women’s Place. Tickets can be purchased at or at the door.

The Vagina Monologues is part of the Bucks Live! series. Forthcoming events include “Sweet Honey in the Rock” Feb. 27, “Omar Sosa with Yilian Cañizares and Gustavo Ovalles” March 7, and “Larry Kirwan’s St. Patrick’s Celtic Crushing Concert” March 14. To learn more, visit or call 215-968-8469.
