Pennridge earns chance for Flyers Cup repeat

Posted

After Monday’s 7-0 semifinal win over No. 6 Owen J. Roberts, the No. 2 and reigning champion Pennridge Rams (16-5) will earn the chance to defend the 2A Flyers Cup against No. 5 Pennsbury.

Shane Dachowski had a hat trick, giving him seven goals in the Flyers Cup, and Jacob Winton turned away all 28 Wildcat shots. Two Ram goals were short handed.

The Rams and Falcons split their regular season games. Pennsbury triumphed 6-3 on Opening Night. Pennridge routed the Falcons 11-4 on Jan. 12.

Pennridge defeated No. 10 Neshaminy 4-2 in the quarterfinals after Winton saved 29 shots while Kevin Pico and Dachowski each recorded a three-point game. The Rams dispatched No. 15 Lower Merion 9-2 in the first round.

The Falcons stunned No. 1 Council Rock South 7-5 in the other Monday semifinal, after CR South had topped Pennsbury three times earlier this year. The Golden Hawks built a 4-1 lead before five unanswered goals turned the tide.

CR South (19-2-0-1), the SHSHL champion, reached the semifinal by shutting out No. 16 Spring-Ford 10-0 in the first round and No. 8 Boyertown 4-0 in the quarterfinal round.

In a Class A quarterfinal last Thursday, No. 11 CR North (6-11-1-1) extended No. 3 Hershey to the limit before falling 4-3 in overtime. Jackson Accardi and Lucas Siomos scored twice in the middle of the third period to erase a 3-1 Hershey lead.

The 44th Flyers Cup final will be held in Hatfield on March 21. The state championships will be held at Robert Morris University Island Sports Center on Saturday, March 25.
