A dedicated conservationist has received the second annual Hans Reimann Memorial Scholarship.
Erin DeAngelis, a senior at Palisades High, will receive $1,000 from Springfield Township’s Environmental Advisory Council, which praised her “outstanding environmental credentials.”
She plans to study environmental engineering at California Polytechnic State University.
During her time at Palisades, DeAngelis helped organize the school’s Sustainability Expo and was a volunteer at the Delaware Riverkeeper Network and the Stop the PennEast Pipeline movement.
In her application to the EAC, the senior stated that the preservation of the natural world and its biodiversity is her main career goal. She added that she hopes to develop products that will reverse the destruction of the environment and continuing extinctions of many species.
The scholarship is awarded to any Palisades High student provided he or she is not related to a township elected official or employee. Lorna Yearwood, chairperson of the EAC, said DeAngelis was one of five candidates for the award.
Reimann, a longtime community volunteer and champion of environmental causes who served on the EAC, died in August 2017.
