Palisades School Board will consider farm preservation Act 153 renewal

Posted

It was brought to my attention that the Palisades School Board at their meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, June in the Palisades High School auditorium will be considering whether to continue with Act 153..

Act 153 gives the ability to school districts to freeze property taxes on lands preserved by the Bucks County Agriculture Program and or the AG Preservation Board from the state of Pennsylvania.

First instituted in 2007 as an added incentive for farmers to preserve their land rather than sell to developers, Act 153 is a partnership between the county and school district that allows recipients to freeze their property tax rates the year they join the farm preservation roster.

I want to make sure all owners / farmers of preserved grounds within Palisades School District are aware of this situation. It is very important the school board members understand who and how this will effect current and future AG within our Upper Bucks area.
