Noteworthy Business briefs: May 19, 2022

David M. Hall Associates in Doylestown is one of 30 small businesses throughout American receiving a $10,000 grant through Citizens Bank’s Small Business Community Champions program.

This year, Citizens saw 11,000 entries in the program – nearly triple the size of last year.

The Small Business Community Champion Contest is intended to recognize for-profit businesses with revenue sizes less than $3M with at least five full time employees.

The $10,000 prizes were awarded in recognition of their efforts toward strengthening their communities.

The funds will be used to provide free teacher training on bullying prevention with a specific focus on students from marginalized communities. The company’s goal in those efforts is to provide a foundation to strengthen school environments so everyone can bring their whole selves to school and get the support they need.

Banking industry veteran Jim Donovan has joined Unity Bank as Chief Lending Officer (CLO), bringing more than 35 years of financial services industry leadership experience to the community bank.

Donovan previously served as a senior vice president with Bryn Mawr Trust and a group vice president with M&T Bank. He started his banking career as a credit analyst with Corestates Bank and also served as vice president and commercial relationship manager with Meridian Bank. Donovan earned a Master of Business Administration from St. Joseph’s University and a Bachelor’s in Accounting from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.

A resident of Newtown Square, he has been very active in the local community serving as a Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce Board past president; Eagle Foundation board member; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisburg board member; Junior Achievement of South Central PA treasurer; and United Way of Schuylkill County board member.

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices (BHHS) Fox & Roach, Realtors recently honored sales associates from the Bucks County offices with an Honor Society Award for their excellent sales performance for 2021, placing them in the top 18 percent of more than 50,000 agents in the national BHHS network.

Greenwood Racing Inc., owner and operator of Parx Casino, announced that Karin Ashford has joined the company as group vice president / legal and chief counsel.

Ashford succeeds Thomas Bonner, who has held that position since 2006 and has now been appointed executive vice president and special counsel.

Ashford is a veteran gaming industry attorney, and since 2004, has been advising Penn National Gaming, Inc., most recently as its vice president, legal and business affairs. She received both her BA and law degree from University of Pennsylvania.

In her new role, Ashford will oversee the legal, regulatory, compliance and risk management functions of the company and its subsidiaries, now operating in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Michigan, with plans to move in the near future to several other states.

BFTP_NEPA will present a virtual tour of Ben Franklin TechVentures® on Tuesday, May 31 at 12:15 p.m.
