Baked by Michela opened its first location in Bucks County with a grand opening event Saturday, May 27.

Located at 777 Second Street Pike, Southampton, the bakery offers a wide array of freshly baked goods, including cakes, pastries, bread, and more. Guests had a chance to meet Michela, the 25-year-old pastry chef and founder of Baked by Michela.

“This has been my dream since I was a little girl and I am so excited to finally share it with the world,” said Michela Sorano, the founder and head baker. “We can’t wait to share these family recipes and handcrafted creations with all the sweet treat lovers in the area. My hope is that our traditions and recipes become a cherished part of their lives as it is for my family.”

Sorano is a graduate of the Bucks County Community College Pastry Apprenticeship Program; the bakery is “committed to using the finest ingredients, employing innovative techniques, and delivering unparalleled customer service.”

Furia Rubel Communications, Inc., announced that its CEO & General Counsel Gina Rubel, and vice president of strategic development, Jennifer Simpson Carr, have again been recognized among the Lawdragon Global 100 Leaders in Legal Strategy and Consulting.

Based in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Rubel and Carr work with a team of law firm marketing and public relations experts as well as a wide range of U.S.-based and international clients.

Rubel has received this recognition six years in a row. A lawyer, leader and entrepreneur, Rubel is called on by law firms and their clients for high-stakes communications including high-profile litigation media relations.

Carr is a business development and digital marketing expert. She leads relationship management and tracks market and emerging trends.

Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s (Ben Franklin Northeast) Board of Directors has approved the investment of $25,000 in Krevitz Industrial Scrap Solutions of Quakertown.

Krevitz Industrial Scrap Solutions provides industrial waste management and scrap metal solutions to Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New York, and New Jersey. Unlike many scrap metal and recycling firms, Krevitz only serves industrial clients.

The investment supports research and development for waste coolant disposal. Krevitz Industrial Scrap Solutions will partner with Lehigh University’s Enterprise Systems Center on this project and will utilize students from both Lehigh University and Kutztown University.

The Christopher Financial Group has announced that James Karthaus, a certified financial planner (CFP) and associate professor at the American College, has joined the firm as a Financial Advisor.

A Doylestown resident, he brings with him over a two decades of experience in the financial industry. As an associate professor at the American College, he has been recognized for his research and teaching excellence in the areas of financial planning and wealth management.

With offices in Conshocken, The Christopher Financial Group offers a wide range of financial planning and investment services to individuals, families, and businesses.

Curtin & Heefner announced that former Bucks County Solicitor Joe Khan has joined the firm’s team of litigators as a partner.

Khan is a well-known trial and appellate attorney who has fought to make local communities safer, stronger, and more prosperous. With his broad experience, Khan will focus his practice on litigation, public sector law, and supporting the firm’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

His work as County Solicitor was recognized when the Pennsylvania Bar Association honored him as 2022s Government Lawyer of the Year, and in 2021 when he received the Outstanding Solicitor Award from the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania.

Prior to his tenure with Bucks County, Khan worked as a federal and local prosecutor, focusing on public safety and going after public corruption. He served for a decade as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania

Renee Swillo, sales leader of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach, Realtors New Hope Office, welcomes Molly Crosland as a sales associate.

Licensed since 2014, she serves Upper Bucks County. Crosland is a member of the Bucks County Association of Realtors and National Association of Realtors. “What sets me apart is the kindness, empathy, responsiveness and dedication I have for all of my clients. Luxury is an experience, not a price point, and everyone deserves to be treated as such,” Crosland continued.

She resides in Doylestown with her husband, Brodey, and their two children. Active in her community, Crosland is a CBAA Lacrosse Coach and DAA Baseball Coach.

Robert Christmas, a longtime bank executive in the Philadelphia area, has been named chief operating officer of the Hepatitis B Foundation, Baruch S. Blumberg Institute and Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center (PABC).

Louis P. Kassa III, chief executive officer of the three nonprofit organizations and president of the PABC, said: “Bob has been a valued advisor to the Pennsylvania Biotech Center for years, both as a banker and as an all-around supporter. This is an essential leadership position, particularly because of our continual growth over the past few years, and Bob was a natural choice.”

A Buckingham Township resident and Bucks County native, Christmas has worked for several banks in the region for the past 19 years, most recently as executive vice president and market president of Customers Bank. He attended both LaSalle University and Villanova University, studying business administration and finance.

The PABC has nearly 100 member companies, mostly small to mid-size science, research and pharmaceutical companies. Nearly 50 of those companies have operations on the Doylestown campus. It is home to the Hepatitis B Foundation, which operates globally, and the Blumberg Institute, which is the Foundation’s research arm.
