Newtown Quaker Kids raise $1,665 for Trenton-based charity

Posted

The young people of Newtown Quaker Meeting hosted a Lasagna Dinner at the historic Newtown Friends Meetinghouse and raised $1,665 for the Mercer Street Friends’ Community Schools in Trenton, N.J., a Quaker-affiliated, nonsectarian organization.

After-dinner events included Dance Eclectic at George School and Intergenerational Games Night in the Quaker Meetinghouse Gathering Room.

Featured at the dinner were lasagnas consisting of various meats, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and a variety of pies, cookies and brownies for dessert. The young people collected voluntary contributions, served the food and cleaned up after the dinner.

Funds raised by the Quaker Kids’ Lasagna Dinners in past years have gone to support: Penndel Food Pantry, Haiti Relief, Save Darfur, Heifer International, the Mercer Street Friends summer Pre-K program and other chartable organizations. The Quaker Kids have now raised and distributed to charities of their choice more than $28,000 over the past 10 years by serving simple meals twice a year.
