Newtown Historic Association sets self-guided walking tour of Tyler Park

Posted

The annual Self-guided Walking Tour of Tyler Park highlights the historic properties and farmhouses scattered throughout the Tyler State Park grounds.

This year, the tour, hosted by Newtown Historic Association, Inc., will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Boathouse Pavilion.

As part of the ticketed event, representatives from both the Newtown Historic Association and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will be on hand to provide a general overview and answer questions at the beginning of the day.

All registrants will receive an informative Tyler Park historical book. This limited-edition, 100-page book contains rare photographs and detailed descriptions of the many historic properties and farmhouses, including the construction of the Tyler mansion, and how they were acquired by the Tyler family in the early 1900s.

Once registrants receive their tour book and orientation, they will be free to tour the park on their own. Information and books are available at newtownhistoric.org/visit/walking-tours/tyler-park/Newtown’s history.

The NHA sponsors several annual events in Newtown, including Market Day (October) and the Open House Tour (December), as well as a historic lecture series and walking tours for student groups. Its headquarters is in the historic Half-Moon Inn at the corner of Centre & Court Streets. Visit newtownhistoric.org for information.
