Posted

The romantic comedy “The Taming of the Shrew” by William Shakespeare continues Newtown Arts Company’s 2018 main stage season Oct. 18 through 24 at The Newtown Theatre, 120 N. State St., Newtown.

Rich, young Lucentio (Derek Esplin) arrives in the Italian city of Padua to attend university, but is immediately entranced by the beautiful Bianca (Noelle Joy Fiorentino).

But, there are complications: Bianca already has two suitors and her father has declared that no one can woo her until her older sister, the ill-tempered, mean-spirited Katharina (Cat Miller), weds.

While Bianca’s suitors find creative ways to spend time with her, enter Petruchio (Matt Duchnowski), a brash young man determined to marry a wealthy woman – whatever her temperament. Petruchio’s campaign to “tame” Katharina ensues and by the conclusion of the play, there are three sets of newlyweds.

The production is directed by George Hartpence, assisted by Carol Thompson, with costumes by Jane DeKorte, music direction by Sue den Outer and set design by Hartpence and George Pickering.

Talkback sessions will be offered after the Sunday matinee and Tuesday evening performances.
