Neshaminy Valley Music Theatre presents “The Addams Family”

Posted

Neshaminy Valley Music Theatre will present its 65th annual musical production, “The Addams Family,” on March 25, 26 and 31 and April 1 and 2, at Neshaminy High School Auditorium, 2001 Old Lincoln Highway in Langhorne.

Performances are Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. The production will be directed and choreographed by Barrymore Award-nominated director/choreographer Stephen Casey.

“The Addams Family,” with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, is based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams, and depict a ghoulish American family with an affinity for all things macabre.

There have been numerous adaptations of Addams’ cartoons over the years, including three live action television series, three animated television series, two animated television specials, four live action films, three animated films, a Netflix spin-off series and a multitude of video games (not to mention the best-selling pinball game of all time).

The musical is the first stage show based on the characters and opened on Broadway in April 2010 featuring Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwrith as Morticia. It was nominated for two Tony Awards and, while on Broadway, consistently played to 100% capacity grossing weekly ticket sales third only to “Wicked” and “The Lion King.”

In the musical, the Addams’ dark, macabre, beloved daughter Wednesday, is now an 18-year-old and ready for a life of her own. She has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a sweet, smart boy from a normal, respectable Ohio family. To make matters worse, Wednesday has invited the Beineckes to the Addams’ home for dinner.

In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, relationships are tested, and the Addams family must face up to the one horrible thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations: change.

The Neshaminy Valley production includes a cast and crew of more than 30 community members from throughout the Delaware Valley region and beyond.

Tickets are available in advance at nvmt.org, nvmt@verizon.net, and 267-733-8876, or for an additional $2 at the door. Proceeds from ticket sales help to support the theater’s scholarship fund.
