The 19th annual NBA Newtown Welcome Day, the “Street Fair with Flair,” held rain or shine from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 5, will take place on Sycamore Street in Newtown.
The one-day event draws 8,000-10,000 people annually. The street will be filled with businesses showcasing their products and services, giving away promotional items and engaging in friendly family games and activities, including inflatables, as well as food vendors with local restaurant tastes.
Intertwined with the businesses’ booths will be many of the region’s artists and crafters, showcasing and selling their hand-made specialties.
Entertainment for all ages will include performances by: Greater Kensington String Band (sponsored by FZP Digital), Magician Mike Miller, BC Discoveries Dance & Theatre, Batala Brazilian Percussion Band, Dance Action of Newtown, Action Karate Newtown, School of Rock Newtown, Rendition Jazz Band, BCX band, Riley Irish Dance, Jungle Joe’s Wildlife Adventures, Newtown Arts Company and more.
This year will include the Rising Star Competition, a “Newtown Idol” event open to all area student and adult vocalists, grades 7 and above.
There will be two age categories. Winners will be determined by a panel of judges on event day; prizes will be awarded. The contest will take place at Fred Beans Ford of Newtown, 10 N. Sycamore St., Newtown.
