Middletown supervisors recognize two police officers

Posted

Two veteran Middletown Township cops were honored by the board of supervisors at the April 17 meeting.

Sgt. Michael Lubold was recognized on his retirement after 33 years on the force, and Officer Glenn McPherson was honored on his retirement from his special role on the South and Central Bucks County Special Emergency Response Team, the county’s equivalent of a SWAT team.

Lubold was a patrol officer for many years before being promoted to sergeant 11 years ago. Among his many roles in the department was serving as leader of the traffic safety division and serving as a training officer.

Township Police Chief Joseph Bartorilla and other Middletown officials had effusive praise for both Lubold and McPherson.

“I think Mike Lubold was at his core a patrol officer, first and foremost,” the chief said. “He loved patrolling the neighborhoods of our township, and he eventually became one of the best traffic accident reconstructionists in the state. He was always talking to other officers about the importance of traffic safety.”

As a member of the police union negotiating team for many years, Lubold played a role in several newly negotiated police contracts, Bartorilla added.

“In that role, Mike had a reputation for being forthright, reasonable and a true gentleman,” he said. “I don’t think I’ve ever worked with someone who was so universally loved and also universally respected.”

Bartorilla said McPherson was one of the original Middletown members of the South Central SERT team and played a key role with that group for many years, including as a tactical operator, group leader and later in administrative leadership roles. McPherson said after the presentation he plans on being a Middletown cop for about five more years before completely retiring.
